Adham Center Associate Now Heading ERTU

JUNE 1, 2001 Hassan Hamed, one of the Adham Center's longest-standing Associates, or honorary faculty members, has been named head of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union.

Hamed has served as head of the Nilesat Thematic Channels for the past four years, and prior to that was head of Nile TV.

"To become chairman of ERTU at this moment of regional disturbance and global challenge certainly makes one pause," Hamed said.

"But under the leadership of President Hosni Mubarak, I am certain these challenges will in time be transformed into opportunities for a just peace in the region and for rapid development not just of Egypt but of Palestine and the rest of the Arab world.

"I'm gratified to be in this position at this moment so that ERTU can be a dynamic partner in that transformation. I hope that the close ties that have existed for years between ERTU and the Adham Center will become stronger than ever, and I congratulate the TV Journalism MA graduating class of 2001."
